A null sign is a powerful magical spell that channels magical power from the wearer of the sign out into the aether. The sign is a fleeting spell that quickly disappears with the dissipating powers unless it is tattooed on to the very flesh of the wearer.
Individuals who are born with a magical spark but refuse to become part of the Sickle are given the ultimatum of having a null sign tattooed on them or be killed.
