Peacebond
A common tradition of many larger towns or cities is to peacebind the weapons of especially visitors but usually also including citizens. In many cases it excludes minor or ceremonial weapons such as a dagger or rapier.
Normally, the procedure is that a visitor with overt personal weapons are asked aside in the gate they arrive at and asked to pay a small fee for the peacebond as well as state which gate they are going to leave from. Name, origin and short physical description of the visitor and her weapon is written down in either a ledger, if the visitor will leave from the same gate as she entered, or sent with a runner (again, paid for by the visitor) to the gate that will be used to leave and then written in that ledger. The peacebond includes a wax seal where a number is also added.
When the visitor leaves the city, she shows her peacebound weapon to the guard who checks it with the ledger and she is allowed to leave. If the guards feel the bond has been tampered with, the visitor is arrested until an investigation clears her of any wrongdoing. Even then she is not allowed to leave until she pays a fine.
If the peacebond breaks by accident or something else happens to it during the stay, the visitor needs to report to the city guards for an investigation and reparied peace bond. Any visitor is of course allwoed to defend herself against assailants with her weapon, but that will open a more complex investigation into what happened.
