Kingdoms in the Realms are the only truly "owned" lands. It's basically a family or organisation that own and can defend an area against other organisations (sometimes related to the concept of Kingdom by Might).
Most kingdoms are ruled by a House and has a King or a Queen as a leader. By definition they are usually quite large and relativey prosperous to sustain its defence and/or warfare.
Many of these concepts are explaind more fully in Gentry, but this is a rundown of titles normally found in a Kingdom:
