The areas and locations of Wellbarrow

Wellbarrow is the northernmost town in the Artipellin kingdom. It is meant as a guard against hostilities from the north, though Artipellin has good relations with Wyny. Instead it's mainly a means to get access to the river and a fortification against Vasj intrusions.

The town has a castle northwest of the main town and a low stone ring wall with a wooden frame on top.

History

The "Well on a Hill" has been a religious destination for hundreds of years, well before House Artipellin was created, mainly due to the rarity of a natural spring (later built into a well) on the top of a hill. It is said that pulling your own water and drinking from the well will give you good health. The water is said to have come from some blessed Dwarven cache of water under the earth.

Later myths include that it was a gift from Rahn, following the destruction of the Dwarven homes (that have been rumoured to be in around these areas).

The local geography around Wellbarrow.

Seafaring

The seas around Wellbarrow can be tricky to navigate. Wellbarrow itself offers pilot service to trading vessels for a charge but there are also two light houses that are placed within a few kilometres of the town that helps guiding boats through some of the underwater cliffs near the coastline. In times of war, the lights are generally turned off to increase the difficulty of attacks by sea.

Both lighthouses are rumoured to be built on top of ancient dwarven ruins. People who support the notion of the Northern Lighthouse to be built on top of dwarf ruins generally disbelieve people who believe it is under the Southern Lighthouse, and vice versa.

Souhern Lighthouse

The Southern Lighthouse has been guarded by Petre Hills for as long as anyone can remember. He is a slightly cooky man in his 60's and is known for regulating the lighthouse well on his own. In fact, he isn't known to ever have missed the service for any reason including illness. He is slightly bent over and walks with a walking stick. How he traverse all the stairs is a mystery to those delivering supplies to the lighthouse, but he does it!

He is called cooky because he says weird and inconsistent things to visitors, though always very welcoming and often offers food. His only other company is a parrot he has named "Harry" that freely flies in and out of the building, mainly coming for the free food.

Not known to the general public, but a recent expedition to the Southern Lighthouse revealed that it, in fact, stands upon dwarven ruins that were named Khordaldrum in the ancient past.
