The Wyny Academy of Warfare in Wyny is not the only centre where men (and women, though exceedingly few) can learn about thing relating to war, but it is by far the best and the only one one can call a proper 'Academy'. It is also hard work and you'd be taken through his paces day after day with only a few breaks to go home visiting family.
Men-at-arms are not allowed to show any favoritism and usually the opposite is true. Students are frequently humiliated and pushed almost to unconsciousness, especially in the first year or two. This is true for men of every walk of life as the Academy leaders feel the only way to build a proper soldier is to break him down first. It is, of sorts, voluntary to go through this training, but parents of young noble men (and some rich merchants) are the ones insisting. Commoners who are sent here to be part of Wyny's extensive army program have no such choice.
The program enables the young men to graft solid discipline into their minds and many skills a solider can need, beyond the fighting. They get to learn survival skills, siege warfare, lessons from history and tactics.
